Wk6 Oatmeal

This week I incorporated whole grains into my recipe by making oatmeal. The recipe is my own.

1 1/2 cup of oats
1 cup of soy milk
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
2 tablespoons of maple syrup'

First, bring the soy milk to a boil in a small pot. When it is boiling add the oats and cinnamon and then

reduce heat to a medium simmer. Cook for another 2-3 minutes and then serve with maple syrup for sweetness.

Reflection.
Though oatmeal is a very simple meal its nutritious and has a lot of sentimental value for me. Throughout learning to cook, the various forms of oats where a part of the learning process; quick oats, regular natural oats, or even the packets of hot cereal. The very first thing I learned to independently cook were the instant packages of "hot cereal" in my moms Keurig. Now reflecting on how much I've grown as a cook and how much I've learned about nutrition making the first food I learned to cook with that knowledge is rewarding. I now know how important it is to be conscious of what you put in your body.
