Week 4: Budgeting and Greek Omelette

The five items from my pantry that I think I will need are

Eggs
Olive Oil
Honey
Spinach
Feta

At Target, these items cost

Feta - $3.69
Eggs - $3.99
Olive Oil - $6.89
Honey - $6.39
Spinach - $4.99

At Fresh Thyme, these items cost

Feta - $4.99
Eggs - $1.99
Olive Oil - $6.99
Honey - $6.99
Spinach - $5.00 <-- on sale normally $5.99/each

For my recipe, I made a Greek Omelette
I used some spinach, some feta, some potatoes, 4 eggs, and salt/ pepper to taste
1. Cut and slice your potatoes. Saute your potatoes in 1 tablespoon of olive oil until soft
2. Rinse your spinach and add it to your sauteed potatoes
3. Whisk your eggs and add a little bit of water if you want fluffy eggs
4. Pour your eggs into the pan cook the omelet
5. Add your feta and cover it with a lid. This will make your feta melty.
6. Add salt and pepper as needed.

Cost of five items from two different stores (e.g., Butter 1lb @ Target - Market Pantry brand = $3.19; @ Fresh Thyme - Fresh Thyme brand = $3.59)
Why did you choose these pantry items?
Did you save any money?
I chose these pantry items because I felt like they would provide me with nutritional food. I did not save any money because what I saved was spent in transportation to and from the grocery stores.

Estimate the cost of the item(s) in the recipe you prepared, e.g., if you purchased 2 lbs of brown rice for $2.89 and used ¼ lb, the cost would be $0.36.
Probably like $5.00 because feta and olive oil are expensive.

How will the pantry item(s) you purchased affect the total cost of future meals?
Ideally, since I expanded my pantry, the total cost of future meals can be decreased.

What is a pantry staple, and what are the benefits of maintaining a personal home food pantry?
Olive Oil is a pantry staple because it helps with cooking and roasting produce.

Were you surprised by anything in this exercise?
How much easier it is becoming to make my meals.

Will it influence your shopping or eating patterns in the future?
Yes, I felt like this exercise was useful.

Do you think building or expanding on your personal food pantry would be a worthwhile goal? If so, what do you need to do to accomplish that goal?
To accomplish this goal, I need to work with my roommates so that we can effectively manage our shared pantry.
