Go-To Meal

This week I prepared thin cut steaks, mushrooms, and eggs. This is my go-to meal because it's very easy to make as I can make all the components in the same pan using the same seasoning. To make it I start by seasoning my steaks with salt and pepper. then I heat up some olive oil in a pan and cook my steaks. Once my steaks are done I remove them to let them rest and put the mushrooms into the pan, seasoning with salt and pepper. Lastly, when the mushrooms are done I put in the eggs and scramble them in the pan, seasoning with salt and pepper.

Comparison:
One similarity I noticed between all the plates is that every single one of them has the same categories of vegetables, protein, fruits, and whole grains or starchy vegetables. Another similarity I noticed is that all the plates recommend water or dairy for drink rather than sugar filled ones. One last similarity is the proportions on the plate between the Harvard plate and the Center for Mind-Body Medicine's plate while the USDA's plate is different in that it has less protein and vegetables and more fruits and grains. Another difference is the Center for Mind-Body Medicine's plate includes starchy vegetables whereas the Harvard plate doesn't even mention them. Finally the last difference is all the plates have varying levels of restrictions with the Harvard plate seemingly having the most in terms of limiting consumption. One question I have is how a plate would vary depending on what I want to do with my body. For example if I wanted to bulk up and be a strong man I would assume my diet would be different than if I wanted to be a long distance runner.

Reflection:
Out of the 3 plates I would compare mine to the Center for Mind-Body Medicine's plate. My go-to plate aligns with their plate for the most part. The biggest difference is the lack carbohydrates or starchy vegetables on my plate. The reason I choose to exclude the carbohydrates is because this meal is ketogenic which allows me to enter ketosis and helps with my weight loss when supplemented with frequent exercise. The reason I chose this plate is because when I eat a fully balanced meal I tend to eat more protein, vegetables, and fats while skimping on the carbohydrates and fruits.
