Planning Process
I chose a summer meal theme because I am missing nice weather and I needed something lighter after Thanksgiving. I first found recipe for the chip dip. I didn't look for very long because I knew I would alter the recipe anyways. I already knew how to make the cake balls and hamburger with fries. Next I wrote down the ingredients I would need for each recipe and crossed out the ones I already had in my pantry. I bought my groceries at Cub Foods a day in advance. I also made the cake balls the day before the rest of the meal. I made the meal at lunch time and shared it with my roommates. It was nice to have a group dinner right before finals.
Explanation of preparation, process, and result
I made the cake balls first because the take a long time and need to be frozen. I went to a friends apartment and we both made a batch. For the batter, I combined the wet and dry ingredients separately. Then beat the dry mix into the wet slowly. I then put the batter into a greased 13x9 pan. It baked for about 30 minutes and then I let it cool. Next I crumbled the cake, added a little bit of frosting, and mixed them together. After that I rolled them into balls and froze them. Then I dipped them into melted white chocolate and put the sprinkles on the top. The next day I made the appetizer and main dish. For the cowboy caviar, I chopped up all of the veggies. Then I drained the beans and corn. I mixed everything together. For the final step I squeezed lime juice on top and added the seasonings. The main dish came last. I started with the fires because I knew they would take a while to cook. I sliced the potatoes into fry shapes and put them on two trays. I added oil, salt, pepper, and paprika. I tossed them and put them in the oven. For the burgers, I added seasoning to the ground beef and formed them into patties. I cooked them in a pan with some oil. Then I assembled the burger. Overall I really enjoyed the combination, however a lighter dessert probably would've flowed better with the theme.
