For this weeks assignment I chose to make Mac-and-cheese which is an originally Italian dish that has become a huge part of American culture since it was commodified by Kraft. I got a Mac-and -cheese recipe from Allrecipes.com and halved it because I'm lactose intolerant and while I enjoy Mac-and-cheese its a dangerous game for me. The recipe I used/ directions are asl follows:
4oz cooked elbow macaroni
1c shredded cheddar cheese
1/4c permission cheese
1/8c of butter
1 1/4 tablespoons of flower
1 tablespoon of butter
1 1/2 c of milk
1/4c of breadcrumbs
1 pinch of paprika
Fist I cooked the macaroni. Then I melted the butter in a pan and created a rue with the flower and milk, I then slowly mixed in the cheese until it was cooked. When the cheese sauce is thick mix with the macaroni noodles in a baking dish and cook at 350 for 30 minutes. Before I cooked the macaroni I melted butter in a skillet and mixed it with bread crumbs and out not top of the macaroni.
Reflection:
This was my first time making a homemade batch of macaroni-and-cheese. My biggest obstacle was that I am lactose intolerant but that wasn't going to stop me! The recipe turned out really well for my first time attempting homemade Mac-and-cheese. I chose Mac-and-cheese as m American cultural recipe because its so universally welcomed known and loved. Even though most people are aware of it because of the pre-made boxes that have been codified and mass produced, its still known as a comfort food recipe in either form. I really enjoyed the recipe and challenging myself by making it.
