week 8: budgeting assignment

For this week's assignment, I made two versions of fried rice. I pretty much freestyled it so there is no recipe. For the first fried rice I made it with beef, carrots, onions and eggs and for the second fried rice I made it with frozen vegetables and eggs.

Shopping list for fried rice

                          Fresh Thyme                                                            CVS
Frozen veggie medley- $1.99                         Frozen vegetables- $2.99
                     Eggs                               - $0.22                                           eggs - $2.99

Since I had most of the ingredients for the fried rice at home, I didn't have to get as much groceries. However, I still compared the prices of other ingredients and found that CVS has a less variety of groceries as they didn't carry any of the fresh produce like carrots or onions and the groceries that they do have like eggs and frozen produce are more expensive. I was a little surprised that CVS's groceries were more expensive but I guess it also made sense because people are more desperate when they choose to shop at convenience stores and since CVS is a big chain it's more reasonable that their prices are higher. Seeing that CVS's prices were higher for groceries but cheaper for ice cream I'll probably just stick to shopping at grocery stores. I would like to explore more local convenience stores and see the prices there in the future though! Overall I did save money but because I didn't buy that much the difference wasn't too significant.
