Recipe name: Vegetarian Chili
source: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/72508/the-best-vegetarian-chili-in-the-world/
I decided to make Chili this week since it's freeeeezing out and I wanted something hot.
Ingredients:
-3 tablespoons olive oil
-1 tablespoon cumin
-2 tablespoons oregano
-1/2 red onion
-3 bell peppers
-3 garlic cloves
-1/4 chili powder
-12 oz of vegetarian burger crumbled
-1 can of kidney beans
-1 can of chickpeas
-1 can of black beans
-1 can of corn
-3 28 oz cans of crushed tomatoes
-1 jalapeno pepper
-salt/pepper
Reflection: This was my first time making and chili and using so many ingredients. It was a little stressful, but it turned out great! I first started by cutting up the onion, peppers, jalapenos, and garlic cloves, and then added most of the seasonings. Next the veggie burger crumbles were added, followed by the 3 cans of tomatoes, and then the chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans, and corn. It was then simmered on a low heat for 40 minutes. It was definitely worth the wait. The chili was then topped off with shredded cheese. There is honestly nothing I would change about the recipe, it really turned out perfect. Hot chili hits the spot when its cold out.
Incorporated technique: I definitely thought chili represented Mexican culture until now, but turns out it actually originated in San Antonio, Texas in 1723. In the 1800's and 1900's, chili was huge in southern Texas and was proclaimed their official "state food"
