week6: whole grain

Chicken Barley Soup from https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/chicken-barley-soup/
Ingredient:

  1. Onion, half and minced
  2. Celery, 3-4, minced
  3. Mushroom
  4. Barley, 1/2 cup
  5. Chicken essence
  6. vegetable oil
  7. salt
  8. Black pepper powder
  9. Water
Steps:

  1. Put barley in the boiled water in a pot.
  2. Add vegetable oil into the wok and stir-fry the chicken, onion, and celery.
  3. Add salt and black pepper for flavor.
  4. After the onion and celery soft, put chicken, onion, celery and mushroom into the pot with barley. 
  5. Cook for a few minutes. 
Reflection:
This is the first time I cook this. I never cooked barley or eat it. I do cook white rice use this way. This kind of dish is very easy to cook and very save time. I can add anything I like to put into the pot. In the receipt, it uses carrot. I omit the carrot because I don't like the taste of the carrot into the soup. And this is the first time I cook onion at home. I am also don't like an onion in my dishes.
Whole grain: Barley is a kind of whole grain that high in vitamins and minerals. It may need a longer time to cook because of the outer bran layer.
