Week 7

This week I decided to try and reattempt to make an omelet after my failed attempt in class on Monday. I used relatively the same ingredients in class and same process with a few changes here and there. In the end I did end up failing so instead I converted into a stir fire with brown rice.

Ingredients:

1/4 cups uncooked rice
5 eggs
1/2 cup mushrooms
1/2 bell peppers
1 full leek
1 clove garlic
1/3 cup parsley
1 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons olive oil
2-3 tablespoons slat
1-2 teaspoons pepper
1 tablespoon soy sauce

(no rice or soy sauce in this image because I first attempted the omelet and only added the rice for a stir fry after my failed attempt)

Process:

I first started by cracking and beating the eggs in glass bowl. I then added the salt, paprika, and pepper. I added the salt because adding the salt would result in the protein breaking down and in turn making a more fluffy omelet. I then cut the leek, mushrooms, bell pepper, garlic, and parsley into bit size pieces. I then added them to a hot pan with some olive oil in it and proceeded to sauté them which took about 10-15 minutes. After I let the vegetables rest for 2-3 minutes to cool down and then I added the vegetable to the egg wash and gave it a good mix before adding it new clean pan with olive oil in it. I started by slowly folding it in upon itself but noticed it was sticking to the bottom. I quickly tried to add more oil to try and stop it but it was already to late. I knew the omelet would not work so I decided to make a stir fry. I quickly took some of the rice I was cooking for a different purpose and added it to the egg pan. I then added the soy sauce and quickly stirred it until it was cooked fully.

Result:

Overall I was not very satisfied with myself. My attempt to make the omelet did not work as planned and that was a result of me forgetting to add butter at the bottom of the pan and not just olive oil which was my original reason of messing up the omelet in class. As for the stir fry I did think it was an ok dish. The proportion for rice I added was very small (as seen in the image) because I was originally going to use the rice to try and make a Persian desert which requires little rice but being that I needed the rice for the stir fry right then and there I decided to use what little I had to try and make the stir fry. I flavor of the dish had a very odd taste to it. I believe the paprika that I had used did not work well with the dish as a whole and I also believe the mushroom I had used might not have been the freshest as they had a very odd taste to them. Overall I would give the dish a 5/10, not very satisfied that I had failed to make the omelet and also with the overall flavor for the stir fry. I will try and make the omelet again over the weekend to try and get it perfect. I did also read that adding milk does help with the process quite a bit than without so I will also attempt that process as well to see if it makes a difference. Hopefully it goes better the next time.
