Week 6: Fried Brown Rice

Recipe Name: Fried Brown Rice

Ingredient: Brown Basmati Rice (8 oz), Egg (1), Peas (3 oz), Salt, Soy Sauce, Sesame Oil

Steps:
1)    Cook the brown rice with water for 50 minutes (2 cups of water per cup of brown rice).
2)    Crack the eggs into the bowl and whisk the egg until we see a yellow mixture. Add salt and soy sauce for taste.

3)    Add oil to the skillet. Place cooked brown rice on the skillet and heat up.
4)    Pour in the egg mixture. Stir the rice and egg.

5)    Add peas, some salt, and sesame oil to skillet. Stir for a few more minutes.

Incorporation of weekly technique:
I used brown rice in this week's recipe instead of white rice (which I typically use to fry). The flavor profile was still similar to the regular fried rice, but brown rice did bring some different texture for this dish.

Reflection:
This is the simplest dish I have made so far this semester. I started by cooking the rice. The rice did take a long time to cook, but I was able to do my own things while the rice was being cooked. Preparing the egg and peas was very straightforward. Once the rice was cooked, it was put into a skillet to heat. I did try out a new method of frying rice, which was to pour in egg mixtures after the rice was already in the skillet. Usually, I would fry the egg first before adding rice, but this new method also worked well for this dish. Overall, I recommend this dish to anyone who wants to have a tasty meal without spending too much time cooking.
