Week 3: Cucumber Salad

For the third week of our blogs we were asked to incorporate slicing into our meal. This made me think of making a cucumber salad that my family usually makes during the summer to pair with our meals. I am not sure of the origins of this side, but my parents have been making it for a very long time.

The ingredients for this side are very minimal, they include:
-1/2 of white or yellow onion
-1 cucumber
-ratio of 1:1 of both olive oil and white vinegar
-Salt and Pepper to taste

Then let sit for a few hours before consumption.

Looking back at this simple side it reminds me of summer. Now that summer is coming to an end I thought this would be a great meal to showcase slicing. It is very important that both the onion and the cucumber are sliced very thin. This helps for the flavors from the oil and vinegar to seep into the vegetables. Along with thin slices it is extra important to make sure the onion is sliced thin, because no one wants to have a huge chunk of onion. Once all of the ingredients are together I would recommend to put them into a Tupperware so you can shake it and mix all of the oil and vinegar up. Finally, you can just put as much salt and pepper in as you like. I enjoy having it very peppery.

Below are photos of the ingredients, sliced cucumber and the final product.
