Wk3: Smoked Sausage and Pepper Skillet

This week I decided to make my family dinner while also doing my assignment. I made a sausage and pepper skillet, the recipe is from an app my mom uses called "Yum'd". The recipe is as follows:

1. cook rice according to package instructions

2. SLICE sausage into coins and heat in a large skillet over high heat for two minutes or until browning starts

3. SLICE peppers and onions and then add to the skillet with the sausage. Cook for an additional there minutes over high heat.

4. Reduce to medium heat and toss in the rice. Heat for an additional five minutes, stirring often. finish with red hili flakes.

I incorporated this weeks cooking technique by slicing the sausage, peppers, and onions for my dish. I consider myself to be a person who doesn't like to eat bell peppers of any kind and yet I find that they're one of the vegetables that I eat the most. I think that this is because I've had them as one too many summer snacks seasoned only with huge gobs of ranch dressing. However, I've found that when i cook a meal instead of eating one that's prepared for me, I enjoy it more. By cooking my own peppers I was able to season them to my taste and experiment with the subtle sweet flavor. By taking control of what I eat I'm able to adjust the flavors and re-examine my relationship with a food I don't particularly love. Overall I made a very good meal that my whole family enjoyed.
