Week 3: Slicing
Chicken Lo Mein
This week I made a simplified version of chicken lo mein.
Ingredients
sesame oil
soy sauce
hoisin
bell pepper
mushrooms
peas
chicken
garlic
ramen noodles
olive oil
Process
I found a recipe for easy chicken lo mein on justataste.com. I used it as a guideline but didn't follow it exactly. I cooked ramen noodles then drained them and set them aside. After that I sliced mushrooms and bell pepper. Next I made the sauce using sesame oil, soy sauces and hoisin sauce. I sliced a two small chicken breasts and cooked them on the stove in oil. Then I set it aside so I could use the same pan to cook my sliced mushrooms, bell pepper, and garlic. I cut the pea pods in half because they were bigger than the other vegetables then added them in. Once the veggies were cooked I added the sauce into the pan. Right at the end I mixed the noodles in.
Reflection
I didn't have the noodle the recipe called for so I used the closest type of noodle I had, which was ramen. I really enjoyed the taste of the sesame oil that the recipe called for. I thought it haded a great flavor and used a little more than the recipe called for. I didn't use the vegetables that the recipe called for. I just ended up using what I already had at home and what I prefer. I wish I had a bigger pan because once I added the noodles, it was really difficult to stir without food spilling out. I probably should've made it in two batches to fix that problem.
