Basic Pantry List

 As you begin to prepare more food at home, you'll want to begin to build a pantry of staple items that you'll use often. Here is a list of useful pantry items for you to consider having on hand. Most items are shelf stable (until you open them) and can be used in many ways - to cook and bake both sweet and savory foods. If you stock your pantry with one or two items from each of the 12 categories, you will have much of what you’ll need to prepare a wide variety of foods from scratch.
  1.  Oil (cold pressed or expeller pressed) - olive, sunflower, toasted sesame, etc.
  2.  Vinegar - Apple cider, balsamic, rice, red or white wine, etc.
  3.  Condiments - Mustard, mayonnaise (these can be prepared from scratch)
  4.  Sweeteners - Honey, maple syrup, cane sugar, etc.
  5.  Flours -Whole wheat, pastry, cornmeal, gluten-free, etc.
  6.  Leavening agents - Baking soda, baking powder, yeast
  7.  Whole Grains - Rice, millet, quinoa, oats, barley, wheat berries, polenta, etc.
  8.  Nuts, seeds, dried fruit
  9.  Fresh herbs/spices - Garlic, ginger
  10.  Dried herbs/spices - cumin, thyme, 
  11.  Canned tomatoes, diced, paste, etc.
  12.  Stocks - vegetable, chicken, fish, etc.
